In my work, I aim to portray aspects of the human body and condition as honest, redeemable, and engaging features with character qualities that evoke emotions, queries, and introspection. Having spent the majority of my life in the shadow of eating disorders, my work is an examination of the form in reaction to societal criticisms and perceptions. Authentic representation of the human form reveals both truth and beauty, though many perceive themselves as inadequate. Amplifying aspects of the form creates a new abstracted image, and perhaps atypical composition. What might first be regarded as flaws become unique expressions, “a crown of beauty for ashes.”
